Got To Pick a Pocket or Two...

Fagin

As austerity continues to bite, Nanny is faced with a shortfall between her tax revenues and her expenditures.

Now in the real world, inhabited by real people such as you and I, when we face a shortfall such as this we attempt to cut back on our expenditure.

Nanny, as we all know, doesn't live in the real world and therefore would not dream of cutting back on expenditure.

Her solution, during times of fiscal tightness, is simple she applies the well worn principle of:

Ker Farking Ching!

It should therefore come as no surprise to learn that local councils, instead of cutting back, are devising new ways to bleed ever more money from their overtaxed residents.

One "wheeze" dreamt up by Hammersmith and Fulham council (Tory run) is to charge people who use parks for their business; eg personal trainers, nannies, dog walkers, teachers leading children through the park etc.

Bills of between £350-£1200 per annum are on the cards for "business use" of the parks.

Funny that, as I assumed that the parks were already paid for via council tax?

On this basis, why not also charge "business" people for walking along the pavement?

Ker Farking Ching!

  1. Yes, in Reading, the local Nanny is charging extra for collecting green waste; something they have done for a while included in the local rip off tax.
It is just a cynical way to get around the council tax freeze imposed by Westminster Nanny.

The whole of government, from local to national to EUSSR, are the enemies of the people....We are being farmed as cash cows.

Not strictly true, Ken. I would argue that councils are more than happy to slash services, such as closing homes for the elderly, home help schemes, closing libraries, leisure centres and even public conveniences, but on the whole they are making no effort to cut back on perks and jollies for executives, councillors allowances, or 'non-jobs', especially those that relate to areas such as elf'n'safety or political correctness, or the armies of jobsworths that make life so unbearable for people.

I think most councils - indeed most of the lefty BBC types as well - think this is some sort of temporary blip - some sort of politicial revenge by the Tories, and that it weill all go away at the next election. This despite the fact that the current coalition have barely scratched the surface of the problems. Actually, the country is broke, and I dread to imagine what the reaction is going to be when the truth finally hits home.

  4. I went to the town hall to pay a parking fine yesterday. They think they have won some free money out of me but 1 X £35.00 fine every twelve months or so is a bargain considering that I park illegally all the time (allegedly).

The town hall payments office was very busy following the two four day weekends but the security guard is a persomal friend who took me out of the reception queue straight past the riff raff, with their lies and excuses, and showed me the machine at which I could pay and "No, you don't have to fill out all those contact details, they are just being nosey".
