Cycle Helmets Are Bollocks

I am gemused to see that not only are cycle helmets ridiculous to look at and a licence to print money for the those who make them but, seemingly, they are useless as well.

Henry Marsh, a leading neurosurgeon, who works at St George’s Hospital in Tooting has claimed that cyclists who wear helmets are wasting their time.

It seems that many of his patients who have been involved in bike accidents have been wearing helmets that were ‘too flimsy’ to be beneficial.

Who would have thought that wearing a device resembling a tortoise shell made of papier mache would be so utterly useless?

Well, cycle helmets aren't made from papier mache but expanded polystyrene, which is waterproof. However as an enforced cyclist (I've lost my motorcycle licence due my having a stroke) cycle helmets aren't just ineffective but engender a feeling of invulnerability - so-called "risk compensation". That's why cycling organisations have repeatedly come out against any measures intending to enforce the mandatory wearing of cycle helmets.
